DURHAM PHD STUDENT SUBMITS STUDY of RIVER RESTORATIOn

Dr Jingrui Sun has just completed a doctorate on restoring fish communities in Northeast English rivers by reducing river fragmentation. Rui (pronounced 'ray') has a lifelong interest in fishes and his home is not far from the Yangtze River in SE China - rather larger than the River Wear! After a degree in China, Rui did a Masters in Environmental Studies in Loughborough University, before moving to Durham University to study Freshwater Ecology with Dr Martyn Lucas. During his research, Rui has worked closely with Wear Rivers Trust and Tees Rivers Trust on river barrier surveying and monitoring fish community (salmon, trout, eel, etc…) change following connectivity restoration works in the Wear and Tees catchments. Rui will continue his career in river restoration in China – different rivers, similar problems!
