Main Workstreams
Wear Rivers Trust works to restore and protect the River Wear and its catchment through practical, science-led action. By collaborating with local communities, landowners and partners, we’re creating resilient rivers, diverse habitats and sustainable landscapes.
Biodiversity & Conservation
Our conservation and biodiversity work uses science and on-the-ground action to restore natural river function, enhance habitats and support species recovery for both wildlife and people.

Rivers & Water
We focus on improving the health and resilience of our rivers and water environments. Through catchment-based management, pollution reduction, and natural flood solutions, we’re working to create cleaner, healthier waterways that support communities, wildlife, and future water security.
Agriculture & Land Management
We support sustainable farming and land management practices that protect water quality, enhance soil health, and restore natural processes across catchments for resilient landscapes and thriving rural communities.

Education & Engagement
Through hands-on exploration, learning outside of the classroom and curriculum-linked activities, we help children and young people build a lifelong commitment to protecting their local water environments.
Wear Catchment Partnership
Wear Rivers Trust hosts the Wear Catchment Partnership, which brings together partners from across the catchment to to improve water quality, restore habitats, and deliver coordinated action for a healthy, resilient Wear Catchment.
